Pop Up Definition--Paul Fried

Paul Fried was born in Germany in 1919. Fried's parents were Austrian and outspoken regarding the Nazi movment, thus Fried was confined and his parents and two brothers died in a concentration camp. After being released from prison, Fried traveled to Hope College in 1940 as a student before enlisting in the U.S. Army. Fried participated in the Nuremburg War Trials and studied at Harvard and the University of Erlangen receiving two doctorate degrees. In 1953, he became a faculty member at Hope College. While at Hope, Fried became the director of the international education program, founded te Vienna Summer School, one of the oldest study-abroad programs at Hope, and the several alumni and colleagues wrote the book Into All the World: Hope College and International Affairs in Fried's honor [1].
